A man in his 50s has died from neuroinvasive West Nile virus disease, marking the first West Nile virus death this year. There are six reported cases and one death. The disease is transmitted through bites from infected mosquitoes and can lead to serious complications. Symptoms may include fever, headache, and body aches.

City health authorities are urging the public to take precautions to decrease the risk of infection, particularly after recent rain. This includes practicing measures to prevent mosquito bites.

Further information on West Nile virus and prevention methods is available from the City-County Health Authority.
