The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn that rabies exposure appears to be increasing nationwide. Between July and August, the agency received 17% more rabies-related inquiries than during the same period the previous year. This includes reports of mass exposure events.

At least eight state health departments reported an increase in post-exposure prophylaxis administration or errors in administering the treatment. A mass exposure event occurred this summer.

Further information is available from the CDC, which issued an official health notice on the matter. The notice provides additional details on the increase in rabies exposure and the agency's response.
