Heat pumps are gaining popularity as a more efficient way to stay warm. They extract warmth from cold air and bring it inside, rather than generating heat by burning fossil fuels. This approach is not only efficient but also provides comfort in all seasons, as heat pumps can reverse their process to act like air conditioners in the summer.

According to a report from the Building Decarbonization Coalition, heat pump sales have doubled over the past 15 years. Recent data shows that heat pump shipments have outpaced those of fossil fuel furnaces, and nearly surpassed air conditioner shipments in the first quarter of 2026.

Further information on this trend is available from the Building Decarbonization Coalition's report.
